Abstract

Skin health extends far beyond topical treatments, being profoundly shaped by internal and lifestyle factors. This article examines the influence of sleep, nutrition, hydration, stress, gut health, alcohol, chemicals, and daily habits on skin function and appearance. Optimal sleep of 7–8 hours supports cellular repair, while both deficiency and excess disrupt this process. A balanced diet rich in vitamins, omega-3 fatty acids, zinc, and antioxidants promotes collagen synthesis and barrier integrity, whereas high-glycemic foods, dairy, and processed items accelerate aging and inflammation. Chronic stress elevates cortisol, damaging collagen and exacerbating acne, eczema, and psoriasis. The gut-skin axis reveals how microbial balance modulates systemic inflammation and immune responses. Alcohol dehydrates skin and depletes essential nutrients, while harmful cosmetic chemicals compromise barrier function. Protective habits like sun protection, hydration, exercise, and stress management foster long-term skin resilience. Ultimately, sustainable skin wellness demands a holistic approach integrating nutrition, lifestyle, mental health, and environmental awareness.
